Historic Towns of Northern France

Northern France is full of wonderful historic towns with black and white buildings and floral balconies; the area is rich in culture, food and wine and has some excellent hotels.  A hotel price comparison site will help you find the best deals, but if need some advice the Provins hotels or the ancient Eguisheim hotels certainly come highly recommended.

Eguisheim
The traditional ‘burg’ or village of Eguisheim is adjacent to the border with Germany in Alsace and is thought of as the epicentre of the much revered Alsatian wine region.  The narrow streets are filled with crooked half timbered buildings in a wonderful mix of French and German styles, which makes for some very beautiful vacation photographs.
Take time to stroll the streets or even climb up to the top of the hill for some splendid views over the vineyards and village below.  Eguisheim is a place to relax and enjoy the environment which can mean anything from relaxing in the café on the square watching the world go by over a drink and a delicious pastry, to exploring the wine trail stopping off en-route for lunch at one of the vineyards, with perhaps a little wine sampling later on.  As you can imagine the Eguisheim hotels are extremely popular, but it’s not only because of their position, it’s also because they offer local hospitality at its best.  There are many hotels to choose between, from the traditional L'Hostellerie du Chateau right in the very centre, stylish both inside and out to those a little farther outside the village such as the L'Hostellerie Des Comtes, which offers complementary breakfasts or the Hotel Saint Hubert, where you can hire a bicycle and cycle the wine route rather than going on foot. Use a hotel price comparison site to check out the most competitive deals at these and some of the other hotels in the area.

Provins
Less than an hour away from Paris, Provins is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  This beautiful ancient town is full of historic buildings, monuments and ancient ramparts dating back to the middle ages.  The highlights of the town are its buildings which include Caesar Tower and the magnificent dome of the Saint Quiriace Collegiate Church which dominates the town’s horizon.  The streets are full of shops selling local crafts and restaurants serving mouthwatering local specialities; during the summertime the streets are also where medieval fairs and shows are held.  This is a small community and there are just a handful of Provins hotels to choose between; however what you can be sure of is that these are both individual and stylish.  For the feel of staying in a grand stylish French house the Maison d'hôtes Stella Cadente Hotel is a good choice, or a little further away The Hostellerie aux Vieux Remparts Hotel with two fine restaurants is always a popular choice.
Whether you decide to stay in one of the typical Eguisheim hotels in the heart of the beautiful Alsatian burg, or one of the historical Provins hotels, check out a hotel comparison site to get the best conceivable deal for your stay in one of the top historical towns in Northern France.
