Becoming a traffic magnet is an idea that anyone with a website should want. Being able to attract traffic instead of fight to get it is not that hard to do when you think of things from your prospect's perspective. What is the reason that they aren't buying your products?
First, you should use an analytics program. This gives you insight into why people leave without buying. If you can do that, you can solve the problem. Google's free analytics is available to the public at no cost. If you have the data from visitors, you can improve the performance of your sites and make more money.
Next, you need to find where your audience already is. Do a search for your most basic keyword terms (if you sell expensive chairs, a search for chair would do the trick). What sites pop up? Visit the 3 sites that show up first. Look for advertising on the page, if someone else is advertising there, you should be able to, too. Advertising on one of these sites is a great shortcut when trying to get more traffic. Even better, you may find forums, blogs, or other social sites where you can post there for free, just don't be a spammer.
Have you ever heard of Google alerts? Google's alerts service lets you know when people use keywords you want to know about. Think about this for a moment: Your potential customer goes to Yahoo Answers and asks a question that directly relates to your product. You can now go and help them out by answering their question and leave a link to your website, too. Setup questions as Google Alerts! To find the questions, go to Yahoo Answers and do a search for your most basic keyword term to find questions that others have already asked. Wrap the beginning of the question in quotes (example: "how do I buy a mattress"), this ensures you only get qualified results. The best part is that Google already knows that the question is there, so it will be back to find your link to your site and will give you credit for it.
This is the most obvious step that nobody ever thinks about. In May of 2007, Google implemented a massive change to their search engine that was called "Universal Search". They took all of their individual search engines (video, news, blogs, images, etc...) and combined the results to create one massive index. If you've searched for anything on Google, you've seen some of the news or video results mixed right in with the standard web results. This revealed to us marketers that we should target video, news, blogs, local listings to get ranked easier. There are a lot less videos competing for your keyword terms then websites. Use this to your advantage and create videos about your products.
